The project CAMS2_72IT is part of the Copernicus Atmospheric Monitoring Service (CAMS) National Collaboration Programme (NCP). It is aimed at improving the dissemination of global and European level CAMS products at national, regional and even local level responding to regulatory needs coming from public administrations. This is particularly relevant for CAMS as air quality and emissions of CO2, greenhouse gases and pollutants are of high relevance for national and local policies and information of the public.
ENEA researchers are involved in the downscaling of air quality modelling products and in the harmonization between CAMS and national anthropogenic emission inventories. In particular, modelling downscaling task will be performed by means of the FORAIR-IT air quality modelling system, forced by CAMS Regional concentration fields provided at 10 km resolution at European level. The same task will be accomplished by ARPA Emilia Romagna and CNR-ISAC researchers with KAIROS and CHIMBO models, respectively, with the aim to evaluate the effect of using European vs global level CAMS products as external forcing on the forecasts performed by the currently operating Italian modelling systems.
